Love is in the Air...

Valentine's Day is 2 weeks away. One of the Teuscher stores in NYC is really into the swing of things. I can't help but stare at their exquisite window display!

Teuscher is definitely one of Oprah Winfrey's favorite things...

It's all about the packaging!

It's all about looking cute!

More cuteness galore!

Ah...yes! Love is definitely in the air for some. Today is also our wedding anniversary. Traditional gift calls for wood, modern - silver. We'll be having none of those. Instead, we'll be having some fancy meal this weekend ;).

This Week in America

The President gave his final State of the Union speech tonight. Yeah! He was given a rousing reception as he entered the room. Like a rock star, he signed a few autographs here and there. Urgh! I am wondering who will give his/her first State of the Union next year? My ideal - Hillary Clinton as President and Barack Obama as Vice President. Whoever it is, he/she is going to inherit a really fine mess left behind by the current administration coupled with the recessive worsening economic situation, housing & subprime mortgage crisis, etc.

Enough about politics. Another major event coming up this weekend is Super Bowl XLII in Arizona. I am not a football fan but all we hear nowadays is the Giants and the Patriots and the much anticipated Super Bowl commercials. Advertisers pay millions for a commercial space during the game, crazy die-hard football fans pay thousands of dollars for a ticket and corporate giants fork out over 150K for those luxury suit/sky box seats.

For many, it's time to have a party at home. Yes, Super Bowl is yet another excuse for us to eat, eat, eat and drink, drink, drink (beer that is!).

GIANTS or PATRIOTS

Serenity says Giants not because of proximity but because they haven't won in a long time.

All About Heath Ledger

It has been 5 days since this talented Aussie actor was found dead in his SoHo apartment a few blocks away from Chinatown. But, there seems to be no end to the media nor the public's interest in Heath Ledger. Infotainment programs like ET, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition, TMZ, etc. have dedicated hours and hours of special reports about him and the "mystery" surrounding his death. Did he kill himself or was it accidental overdose? Does it matter now that he is gone?

As I am blogging about this, "The Order" is playing on Fox 5. Truly, Ledger is a rising star that bit the dust way too early. There's no doubt that his funeral in Perth, Western Australia will also attract plenty of media & paparazzi attention.

Adrian & I were in Chinatown shopping for some Chinese New Year goodies and we took a turn at Broome Street just to have a look-see and perhaps, to pay tribute to this talented actor who passed at the dawn of his prime.

421 Broome Street. I couldn't help but think that maybe Ledger chose this street because Broome reminded him of home. Or, it could just be pure coincidence.

Tributes poured in immediately after news of his death broke out, but they've cleared most of them away. Today, fans and people were still leaving flowers, personal letters, momentos etc. outside his rental apartment.

A Ledger fan leaving behind something and barricades outside his apartment in SoHo.

Moments later, Geraldo Rivera and his film crew stopped by the apartment and started filming a segment for his show. We overheard him interviewing a doctor about the possible cause of Heath Ledger's death and the doctor said something like it was too late to do anything for Ledger.

Geraldo interviewing the doctor or some medical expert (gray-haired man) and a small crowd started to form around them.

Crowds gathering and listening to Geraldo's interview.

After 15 minutes or so, it's all over. Geraldo stopped and posed for photos with some of his fans and quickly walked away.

And, we went home.

My New Sneakers

The last time I bought a pair of good sneakers was 4 1/2 years ago. I think that pretty much tells you about my rather sedentary lifestyle. Anyway, I saw something that I like a lot, on sale, about a month ago. I've been looking for gray toned sneakers for some time now and this is my favorite. Aesthetics aside, after using it for a few weeks, I find that the cushioning is so much better than a certain brand with the "hook" symbol or the "tick" symbol as some M'sian folks call it. I don't think I have to reveal the brand I'm referring to. Hee...hee!

Sam Boi

My significant other, who has been ill with the cold recently has an unusual craving for preserved prunes or "sam boi" as the locals call it back home. Anyway, I don't know why (of all the prunes available at the store) he bought this particular type.

I wonder what they were trying to say - "Green Ecology Limitless Magnificence"?!

When I turned the package around, there was a sticker which warned us that saccharin in this product could cause cabcer cancer in lab oratory lab animals. Seriously, they should think about doing a spell check because I thought those animals could orate/talk in the lab.

So after all this, what did we do with the prunes? We ate them and I haven't started speaking like Remy yet.

What a way to start 2008

The entire household is sick. It's the cold season again. Strep throat, fever, chills, aches - you name it, we got it in Bergen County. I have been feeling groggy & congested since last Thursday and sadly, passed the virus to Adrian over the weekend. We spent most of our weekend sick in bed. Bummer...!

I didn't even bother to go to the doctor's because there's nothing much he/she can do for me. Lots of Vitamin C, water, soup & rest.

Hope we will get over this soon. I hate to walk around like a zombie :( Half of the people at work are also congested but I need to get my head together as the Boss needs my creative juices to flow soon. Oh...oh :(
