Letting up winter
Snow is white and pure. But, if you have to use the car you'd wished it never came.
This is one of my pet hates during winter. Taken 2 days ago when there was a frigid wind. Luckily, only a little accumulation and powdery snow; hence easy to dust off.
This is my winter moan...

There was an Arctic blast,
I hope it is the last,
I hate to dust & shovel,
Coz it makes me wanna grovel.

Is-a very nice! Not a full movie review, just a few paragraphs of MTCW on it.
Curiosity won over us. We checked out - "Borat! Cultural Learnings..." on DVD last Tuesday.
Sacha Baron Cohen a.k.a. Borat, Ali G & Bruno is ingenious.
As Borat, his risky and risque take on taboo subjects and sensitive issues executed with slapstick humor is definitely worth watching. So infectious that Adrian & I are still reeling in bouts of laughing gas days later. Some may find it offensive, repulsive, anti-semitic, discriminatory [to women] but if you watch it with an open-mind; then I guarantee you will be highly entertained.
I think Borat is pop-culture's newest icon and that "Boratism" will find its way into our dictionaries in the near future. His mumble jumbled Eastern European/Hebrew vocabulary is hard to ignore and fits his character like a glove. It's really made for him.
Kudos to those who worked on the promotion of this so called "movie film", as Borat would say. They took their "comedi-ness" (if there's even such a word) seriously down to a tea or rather down to the disc, in this case. Check out the spoof.
Hey! You gave me a pirated Borat film, NOT?! It got me at first. Shame...shame. But that's the central theme, isn't it?! A mockery of everything.Understanding Borat's "cheapness" and background, he would indeed be capable of doing this. "DEMOREZ" sounds familiar??? Yeah, I have a few of those in my DVD case. Maybe more like Memorex. Gotta love the hand-written font/title on the disc.

Mee Siam Day
It is Friday again which means no meat day. So, I am taking this opportunity to try the Mee Siam paste I brought back from Singapore. My Grand Aunt highly recommended the PRIMA TASTE Mee Siam Paste when I visited her last December.
Mee Siam or Siamese Noodle is not very popular in Malaysia. In Singapore, Mee Siam is a superstar dish. Like Tiger Woods to golf or LeBron James to the NBA. Something like that. I learned to eat it because being of Peranakan descent, this is a "must have" one-dish meal at home. The gravy is sourish (tamarind juice), spicy and sweet. In my opinion, this version is the best. There's another version which is stir-fried. It's drier and served in most restaurants in Peninsular Malaysia.
A few years ago, I found a Mee Siam recipe in Silver Kris; Singapore Airlines' (SIA) in-flight magazine. Did they serve Mee Siam to their business and first class passengers too? Well, I haven't had the privilege to sit in those expensive sections of the plane.

Today, I am resting my recipe book and cooking mee siam the lazy way. The Prima Taste Mee Siam Paste packet comes with sambal* bee hoon and sambal chili (see above). So convenient! All I have to do is prepare the rice vermicelli (bee hoon) and the garnish; boiled prawns, hard-boiled eggs, chives and thinly sliced cucumber. I would have included tau pok (fried bean curd) cubes but the ones sold here isn't as nice as the ones back home. Besides, I don't quite like tau pok anyway.
*sambal = condiment used in most South East Asian dishes, very addictive.
Stir fry the soaked bee hoon with sambal. Set aside.
Prepare the Mee Siam gravy. Heat up the paste and add in some prawn stock and water. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
Dish out the bee hoon and garnish with cucumber, prawns, hard boiled eggs and chives. Pour Mee Siam gravy over it.
For extra "oomph", eat it with sambal chili.
My verdict for Prima Taste's Mee Siam Paste: 5 stars. Yummylicious!

Too old for cartoons???
Nahhh....just a kid at heart.

I have a profound new love for the cutest and most curious monkey on television. Been addicted to Curious George since last year. Although the movie version is adorable, I still prefer the shorter, made for TV episodes developed by Universal Animation Studios & WGBH.
I just have to mention George's best friend, Hundley.

He reminds me of my dachshund at home - Lizzie...
