Chit-chat: A freak wintry band passed by last Friday through Saturday and dumped about 4-6 inches of snow. Apart from that downer, we had a fantastic weekend. Michele, Allan & Alex dropped by our apartment for a home cooked lunch & dessert yesterday :))) To top it off, March Madness! Adrian's alma mater Salukis had a good run at the NCAA men's basketball competition. Fingers crossed for the underdogs. Who let the dogs out? Woof, woof, woof, woof...!

Day-dreaming about the outdoors

All this winter confinement is making me day-dream of what life has in store for us come spring, summer and fall. As a tribute to better weeks to come, I will now share two past activities from my non-blogging days.

Before that I must express sadness over the passing of Jughead. No, not that glutton Jughead from Archie comic books but the lovable male grizzly bear we saw at the Bronx Zoo.

We took this photo of Jughead in the summer of 2005.
Rest in peace.

Ramapough Lenape Nation Pow-Wow

Gathering of native Americans or pow-wow is getting smaller these days. On a grand scale it could last up to a week. What do you do at a pow-wow?

1. Eat - buffalo seems to be their choice of meat

Buffalo burgers, buffalo steak, buffalo sausage, buffalo dogs, buffalo chili, etc. I didn't realize the health benefits of eating buffalo meat until now. Click here to find out more.

2. Watch a dance-off Ramapough Lenape style

Parade of dancers

The Chief starts dancing

Light Foot (not his real name, I'm just kidding) jiving to the drum beats

3. Look at some native American handicrafts

Moccasins - boot style, slip-ons & baby mocs

Metro-sexual axes for the modern man, complete with feathers & furs!

4. Watch a sheep herding demonstration

Liz waiting for further instructions

Border Collies -Liz & Ty taking a breather

My...my...my!

Vent:
At this juncture, I would like to dedicate this "in-your-face" ass **** photo (no offense to the sheep) to a certain Malaysian politician/minister for calling all female bloggers jobless, liars, etc. Now that his foot is stuck in his mouth, he's trying to clean up his sullied ass by hiring some PR agency in a bid to make nice the tsunami of outrage he caused. Brain smaller than his balls? For sure!!! To borrow a line from the Dixie Chicks - [I'm] not ready to make nice - with this turd. Who cares if he's nobility. To understand my ire as well as many others', read Screenshots dated March 17, 2007.

Waterloo Village

Waterloo United Methodist Church, c. 1859

Waterloo is a quaint 19th. century village in Stanhope, NJ. It's beautifully restored and houses a life size Lenape Indian village on Winakung Island. There was a wine festival going on during our visit. We sampled different types of fruit wine as well as the regular whites, reds & desserts from wineries around New Jersey.

Adrian and other wine "connoisseurs" flock to the tents for samples

Comfort station *drool*

Our purchase - Heritage Station Apple Wine

The General Store

Blacksmith at work

The Gristmill, c. 1700s

Guard lock

Shot of the Morris Canal c. 1830s & Towpath Tavern

The Homestead, c. 1700s

Smith House, c. 1874

Lenape Indian Village

Lenape Indians, the original people of New Jersey have a similar social structure as the Minangkabaus of Malaysia. They are a matriachal group and relied on agriculture for sustenance. In time, the Lenape Indians relocated further away from the river due to conflicts with colonists. Their native language (Alqongian) is sadly dying out as many Lenapes speak English these days.

Lenape Spirit God

Lenape long house. Long??? They should come and visit the longhouses in Sarawak

Fire-starter

Hunting hut

Replica of the original Lenape drawings etched on a stone

Animal skins - deer, bear, beaver, bobcat, skunk, raccoon, etc.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

If you're sick, crawl into this tiny space and sweat it out, hence
the Lenape Sweat Hut. Probably, the first concept of sauna/steam bath?

Lenape burial ground & totem poles (turtle, turkey and wolf clans)

Ok...enough day-dreaming already. Time to log-out. Till then...
